_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*THE RIGHTS OF A MUSLIM.*
Know verily that, it is amongst the rights of a Muslim for one to make salam to him if one meet him, if he invites one for a feast or anything that concerns him, one should respond to his call, if he sneezes and praises Allāh by saying Alhamdulillāh, one should respond to him by saying yarhamukallāh.
In addition, if he falls ill, then one should pay him a visit to comfort him, if he passes away, one should follow his corpse to the grave.
It is also recommended that If he seeks for one’s advice, one should hasten to advise him sincerely, and one should also defend his honor whether in his presence or absence.
Moreover, One should love for him what one loves for himself, and one should hate for him what one hates for himself.
Also amongst the rights of a Muslim is that one should not harm him with a word nor action. Rather, one should be humble and kind to him and one should not be arrogant to him.
Lastly, one should not severe a Muslim for more than three nights.
In this regard, It is reported from Abu Ayyub radiyallāhu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allāh – sallallāhu àlayhi wasallam said:
_”لا يحل لمسلم أن يهجر أخاه فوق ثلاث ليال: يلتقيان، فيعرض هذا ويعرض هذا، وخيرهما الذي يبدأ بالسلام”_.متفق عليه
_”It is not permissible for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three nights. When they meet, this one turns away from that one and that one turns away from this one and the best among them is the one who first makes salam to his brother.”_ Agreed upon.
Transmitted and recorded by Imām Al Bukhārī in ”Adabul Mufrad”#677 and Imām Muslim in his ‘Sahih’#2060.
