_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*THE RIGHTS OF A NEIGHBOR.*
Know verily that, a neighbor possess more rights apart from the rights of being a Muslim. He may be a family member and at the same time a neighbour. Thus, he has the rights of being a Muslim, neighbor and a kin.
In Islam, it is not permissible for one to harm his neighbor in any form. It is even encouraged for one to be patient and bear the harm of his neighbor. One should also be soft on him, make salam to him and one should hope for good for his neighbor.
If the neighbor is sick, one should pay him a visit. And if a calamity should befall him, one should feel sympathy for him.
In addition, one should congratulate him in times of success. One is also expected to overlook his shortcomings and one should not peep into the house of a neighbor. Of it, one should cover the secret of his neighbor.
Lastly, one should safeguard the honor of the family of his neighbor whether in his absence or presence.
