_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
Know verily that, Evilness of the heart and its miserliness can also lead to envy, for there are some people who don’t bother about leadership nor pride.
But they deslike to hear about the progress of others, for that upsets them and make them unhappy and they find it difficult to bear the information due to the badness of their heart. And if some calamities befall others, they rejoice.
Thus, they hate what Allāh Has bestowed upon His servants of His blessings and virtues as if the blessings is from their domain.
In this regard, some ulamā are reported to have said:
A miser person is the one who is resentfully unwilling to spend his own money, while niggardly person starves himself and others and he hate what Allāh Has bestowed on others of virtues even though he may not have direct connection with those people.
All these are caused by the evilness of the heart and bad character, and it is very difficult to cure and rectify such illness, for it doesn’t have a specific factor that causes it let alone working on getting rid of it.
Rather, it is the wickedness of the innate nature which is in built, therefore, it is difficult to cure.
