_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
Know verily that, there are many Ahādith which shows the pettiness of this dunya and its insignificance. Some of these Ahādith are as follows:
_It is reported from Mustaurid Ibn shaddād radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ ) said:
_ﻭَﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﻣَﺎ ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ ﻓِﻲ ﺍﻵﺧِﺮَﺓِ ﺇِﻻَّ ﻣِﺜْﻞُ ﻣَﺎ ﻳَﺠْﻌَﻞُ ﺃَﺣَﺪُﻛُﻢْ ﺇِﺻْﺒَﻌَﻪُ ﻫَﺬِﻩِ ِ ﻓِﻲ ﺍﻟْﻴَﻢِّ ﻓَﻠْﻴَﻨْﻈُﺮْ ﺑِﻢَ ﻳَﺮْﺟِﻊُ”_
_By Allah, this world (is so insignificant in comparison) to the Hereafter that if one of you should dip his finger in the ocean and then he should see as to what has stuck to it._
Transmitted by Imām Muslim#2858.
_It is reported from Abu Hurairah radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ ) said:
_ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ ﺳِﺠْﻦُ ﺍﻟْﻤُﺆْﻣِﻦِ ﻭَﺟَﻨَّﺔُ ﺍﻟْﻜَﺎﻓِﺮِ._
_The world is a prison house for a believer and Paradise for a nonbeliever._
Transmitted by Imām Muslim#2956.
_It is reported from Sahl bin Sa’d radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Messenger of Allah sallallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
_ﻟَﻮْ ﻛَﺎﻧَﺖِ ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ ﺗَﻌْﺪِﻝُ ﻋِﻨْﺪَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺟَﻨَﺎﺡَ ﺑَﻌُﻮﺿَﺔٍ ﻣَﺎ ﺳَﻘَﻰ ﻛَﺎﻓِﺮًﺍ ﻣِﻨْﻬَﺎ ﺷَﺮْﺑَﺔَ ﻣَﺎﺀٍ._
_If the world to Allah was equal to a mosquito’s wing, then He would not allow the disbeliever to have a sip of water from it._
Transmitted by Imām At-tirmidhi#2320. Shaykh Al-Albāni declared it as Sahih in Assahīhah#686.
_It is reported from Abu Hurairah radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Messenger of Allah sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said:
_ﺃَﻻَ ﺇِﻥَّ ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ ﻣَﻠْﻌُﻮﻧَﺔٌ ﻣَﻠْﻌُﻮﻥٌ ﻣَﺎ ﻓِﻴﻬَﺎ ﺇِﻻَّ ﺫِﻛْﺮَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﻭَﺍﻻَﻩُ ﻭَﻋَﺎﻟِﻤًﺎ ﺃَﻭْ ﻣُﺘَﻌَﻠِّﻤًﺎ._
_Lo! Indeed the world is cursed. What is in it is cursed, except for remembrance of Allah, and what is conducive to that, the knowledgeable person and the learning person._
Transmitted by Imām At-tirmidhi#2322. Shaykh Al-Albāni declared it as Hasan in ‘Sahīhu At-tirghīb wat-tarhīb’#80.
