_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
2). What one spends on others, and it is classified into four:
A. As-sadaqah, and its virtues are much and known.
B. Gift. These are generally given to both privilege and the less privileges ones. This type of spending is also considered as part of the benefit of wealth for the deen, for it brings about closed relationship and friends.
C. Spending in order to safeguard ones honor and the blame of the foolish ones and to also cut the evil of their tongue. Verily, this serves the deen a lot.
For by that, one prevents the slanderer from slandering and backbiting and one also safeguard the statement he may choose to alter due to envy and hatred thereby passing the limit set by the shariàh.
D). Paying to render a certain work by another person. What one need in order to attain his goal of searching for knowledge are much.
And if one chooses to do those things by oneself without paying for another person to do it, much time will be wasted and one will find it difficult to have time for searching of knowledge, thinking about Hereafter and zikr which are the peak goals one can ever think of.
Therefore, if one have no money, one has to do those works by oneself.
Thus, anything one thinks another person can do it for one thereby hastening one in one’s journey towards one’s goal, then, doing it by oneself is time consuming and a waste of time.
Because of the need for one to busy oneself with what another person cannot do in one’s place be it seeking of knowledge, zikr and pondering is greater and more deserving.
