Setbacks and Calamities of Wealth

📬 DAILY POST#459

_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:

III). Wealth may turn one from the zikr of Allāh Ta’āla and His path if one is not well cultured and discipline. Wealth may also distract the heart from thinking about the deen of Allāh Ta’āla.

For instance, a wealthy farmer thinks day and night about his workers on the farm, their treachery, outputs, and he also thinks about ways of superseding his partners in such business, and may even seek the assistance of the rulers in order to monopolize his product for much sales and profits.

All these acts occupies his mind and thus, he has no time to think about Allah nor ponder on His signs. With time, the heart becomes harden and it is filled with diseases due to lack of remembrance of Allāh.

Likewise, a business man thinks daily on how to dupe and cheat his customers and how to reduce the sales rate of his rival in business in order to boast his sales rate.

Even a rich person who is not a business man also partakes in these, for he always think on what to save the money, and he his scared about the situation of the money.

And most often than not, the rich men are covered with anger, envy, sadness, tiredness, pride and all sort of vices.

However, the poor people or the middle class ones have nothing to do with these burdens, for they are free from it. Hence, they live freely and have much time to think about Allāh and to set the journey towards Him.

Lastly, one is encouraged to take from wealth which are necessary and fundamental for one’s journey towards Allāh and the rest of the wealth should be spent on His path.

But anything apart from these is really disastrous and dangerous to the well being of the soul.
