_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
*C)*. Knowing the virtues of contentment and the evil of greediness. Contentment increases ones status and honor while covetousness humiliates one.
Thus, whosoever doesn’t prefer his honor as against his desires shows that he is deficient in intellect and his faith is weak.
And What is only needed in contentment, is for one to be patient from excessive desires and luxuries. And by that, one shall attain great reward on the last day.
*D)*. One should ponder and read the life style of the kuffar, the lowly people and the foolish ones amongst them, then one should check that of the prophets and the pious people, one should compare the different between their life styles. One will notice that, the prophets and the pious people always stick to contentment as against luxuries whereas the kuffar and the ignorants always busy themselves with worldly affairs and its amusement.
For this reason, one should be patient with the little one has and one should be satisfied with it.
*E)*. One should realise the vices of wealth and one should look at the virtue of being moderate in wealth, and one will be contented if one look unto the one that is below one in the status of this dunya, and unto the one that’s more than one in level in the deen matters.
In this regard the prophet sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam was reported to have said:
_”انظروا إلى من هو أسفل منكم، ولا تنظروا إلى من هو فوقكم، فإنه أجدر أن لا تزدروا نعمة الله علبكم”_
_”Look unto those who are below you (in the status of this world), and do not look unto those who are above you, for that is more deserving in making him not to despise the bounties of Allaah upon him.”_

Lastly, one should know that, patience and lack of much ambitions are the two keys that assists one to attain contentment, and dunya is based generally on patience and days in it are numbers and Short.
Thus, if one is patient in it, one will certainly attain everlasting enjoyment in Paradise, then the situation of one will be as though a sick person that is patient on the pain of treatment in order to attain recovery.
