_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
*THE VIRTUE OF BEING SELFLESS.*
Know – may the blessings of Allah be upon you – that, generosity and greediness are of stages.
The highest stage of generosity is being selfless to others and sacrificing for them or giving out money while one is in need of it.
The worst stage of greediness is for one to be miser on oneself despite being in need of such necessities.
For how many greedy people out there falls in sick but doesn’t take medicine despite having the money at hand. And this is entirely different from someone who is selfless to his brothers.
Allāh indeed, Has praised the companions of the Rasūl sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam due to their selflessness.
Allāh says:
_ويؤثرون على أنفسهم ولو كان بهم خصاصة_
_And prefer above themselves though they themselves are in need of it._
Suratu Al-hashr, verse 9.
