_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
And other set of people used to suit acceptance from both the pious and the people of the dunya be it kings, leaders and business men. For this, they will choose to dress in a dressing that’s in between that of the people of luxuries and the righteous ones in other to win their both acceptance. But if they were to wear an extra exorbitant cloth only, they will surely not be accepted by the pious ones, and if otherwise they chooses to wear tattered, cheap, torn cloth, the kings and the rulers will surely belittle them.
However, they want to combine the acceptance of the people of the deen and the dunya, thus, they will suit for a moderate, simple cloth which its color, nature is that of the pious ones in appearance while its price and quality is that of the rich ones, therefore, they will be accepted in the side of the two parties.
They did all these in order to please them and attain some levels of status in their heart.
Thus, if such people were to be forced to wear a rough cloth or dirty cloth it will be as though they will be slaughtered fearing that they may be belittled by the luxurious ones and the rulers. Also, if they were to be compelled to wear a white, high quality cloth and the likes, that will be heavy on them because they are afraid not be downgraded by the pious ones.
Therefore, whenever they dressed, they find it difficult to change to that which is below it or above it because of the fear of blames or castigations.
As for the people of luxuries, they used to show off by wearing expensive cloth, riding in ultra expensive cars, and getting forms of designs in wears, houses and its accessories just to attract the attention of people and to obtain status and position.
Whereas, at home they don’t care to wear tattered cloth for their family and it is highly difficult for them to show off with such type of dressing they used to involve at their houses.
