_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
Know verily – may Allāh shower you with His blessings – that, the causes of self amazement is same as that of arrogance and Alhamdulillāhi, we have already mentioned its remedies.
And of it, is for one to be mesmerized with one’s progeny, thinking that may be saved by that. However, one need to realise that, the reputation of one’s lineage can only benefit one if one follow their good footsteps. And it is only the ignorant person that boasts with the good qualities of his lineage without putting such good characters in practice.
The characters of the past salaf were full of good qualities be it humbleness, modesty, honesty and the likes. They were honored due to their praiseworthy attitude, not due to lineage. Allāh says:
_إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ…_
_Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is the one amongst you most careful (of his duty);.._
Suratu Al-Hujrāt, verse 13.
_…ﻭَﻳَﺎ ﻓَﺎﻃِﻤَﺔُ ﺑِﻨْﺖَ ﻣُﺤَﻤَّﺪٍ ﺳَﻠِﻴﻨِﻲ ﻣَﺎ ﺷِﺌْﺖِ ﻣِﻦْ ﻣَﺎﻟِﻲ ﻻَ ﺃُﻏْﻨِﻲ ﻋَﻨْﻚِ ﻣِﻦَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ.”_
_O Fatima bint Muhammad! Ask me anything from my wealth, but I cannot save you from Allah’s Punishment.”_

In addition, one may think that one’s lineage may intercede for one on the day of Qiyāmah. But that’s not always the case. For intercession will only benefit those that deserve it and some may be interceded for after passing through the torment of hell. And at times, the sin may be so grievous that such a person may not be allowed to be interceded for.
In this context, in the Sahīhayn, from the Hadith of Abī Hurairah Radiyallāhu anhu that the prophet sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam said:
_”ﻗَﺎﻡَ ﻓِﻴﻨَﺎ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺒِﻲُّ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻓَﺬَﻛَﺮَ ﺍﻟْﻐُﻠُﻮﻝَ ﻓَﻌَﻈَّﻤَﻪُ ﻭَﻋَﻈَّﻢَ ﺃَﻣْﺮَﻩُ ﻗَﺎﻝَ ” ﻻَ ﺃُﻟْﻔِﻴَﻦَّ ﺃَﺣَﺪَﻛُﻢْ ﻳَﻮْﻡَ ﺍﻟْﻘِﻴَﺎﻣَﺔِ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺭَﻗَﺒَﺘِﻪِ ﺷَﺎﺓٌ ﻟَﻬَﺎ ﺛُﻐَﺎﺀٌ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺭَﻗَﺒَﺘِﻪِ ﻓَﺮَﺱٌ ﻟَﻪُ ﺣَﻤْﺤَﻤَﺔٌ ﻳَﻘُﻮﻝُ ﻳَﺎ ﺭَﺳُﻮﻝَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ، ﺃَﻏِﺜْﻨِﻲ . ﻓَﺄَﻗُﻮﻝُ ﻻَ ﺃَﻣْﻠِﻚُ ﻟَﻚَ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ، ﻗَﺪْ ﺃَﺑْﻠَﻐْﺘُﻚَ . ﻭَﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺭَﻗَﺒَﺘِﻪِ ﺑَﻌِﻴﺮٌ ﻟَﻪُ ﺭُﻏَﺎﺀٌ، ﻳَﻘُﻮﻝُ ﻳَﺎ ﺭَﺳُﻮﻝَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺃَﻏِﺜْﻨِﻲ . ﻓَﺄَﻗُﻮﻝُ ﻻَ ﺃَﻣْﻠِﻚُ ﻟَﻚَ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ، ﻗَﺪْ ﺃَﺑْﻠَﻐْﺘُﻚَ . ﻭَﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺭَﻗَﺒَﺘِﻪِ ﺻَﺎﻣِﺖٌ، ﻓَﻴَﻘُﻮﻝُ ﻳَﺎ ﺭَﺳُﻮﻝَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺃَﻏِﺜْﻨِﻲ . ﻓَﺄَﻗُﻮﻝُ ﻻَ ﺃَﻣْﻠِﻚُ ﻟَﻚَ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ، ﻗَﺪْ ﺃَﺑْﻠَﻐْﺘُﻚَ . ﺃَﻭْ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺭَﻗَﺒَﺘِﻪِ ﺭِﻗَﺎﻉٌ ﺗَﺨْﻔِﻖُ، ﻓَﻴَﻘُﻮﻝُ ﻳَﺎ ﺭَﺳُﻮﻝَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺃَﻏِﺜْﻨِﻲ . ﻓَﺄَﻗُﻮﻝُ ﻻَ ﺃَﻣْﻠِﻚُ ﻟَﻚَ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ، ﻗَﺪْ ﺃَﺑْﻠَﻐْﺘُﻚَ.”_
_”The Prophet sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam stood up amongst us and mentioned Al Ghulul, emphasized its magnitude and declared that it was a great sin saying, “Don’t commit Ghulul, for I did not like to see anyone amongst you on the Day of Qiyāmah, carrying over his neck a sheep that will be bleating, or carrying over his neck a horse that will be neighing. Such a man will be saying: ‘O the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam, Intercede with Allah for me,’ and I will say, ‘I can’t help you, for I have conveyed the Message of Allāh to you nor should I like to see a man carrying over his neck, a camel that will be grunting. Such a man will say, ‘O the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam! Intercede with Allah for me, and I will say, ‘I cannot help you for I have conveyed the message of Allāh to you,’ or one carrying over his neck gold and silver and saying, ‘O the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam, Intercede with Allah for me,’ and I will say, ‘I can’t help you for I have conveyed the Message of Allāh to you,’ or one carrying clothes that will be fluttering, and the man will say, ‘O the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam! Intercede with Allah for me. And I will say, ‘I can’t help you, for I have conveyed the message of Allāh to you.”_
The similitude of a person who indulges in sins intentionally relying on the claim that he shall be interceded for by his closed relatives or love ones is as though a sick person who hasten for that which may harm him of his desires which he was advised not to go for because of his sickness relying upon an expert doctor.
This behaviour is that of an ignorant one, for the work of the doctor will only heel some part of his diseases not all.
Lastly, if the companions (Ridwānullāhi a’layhim ajmaī’n) of the beloved Messenger sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam fear for themselves the meeting of Allāh on the Day of Resurrection, how dare should one relent due to the worthless status of one’s lineage?!
And is it not high time for one to prepare for the Day that wealth and children will be of no avail?!
