Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh- said:
Patience And Gratitude.
They are of two major matters: First: The virtue of patience, its meanings and divisions and the likes. Indeed, Allāh Ta’āla Has mentioned the word ” _As-sabr_ ” in the glorious Qur’an in ninety places, and He attaches to it various merits and stages which are its fruits, Allāh Ta’āla says:
And we appointed, from amongst them, leaders, giving guidance under our command, so long as they preserved with patience and continued to have faith in Our Signs.)
…and the good word of your Lord was fulfilled in the children of Israel because they bore up (sufferings) patiently…
Sūratu Al-‘Aarāf, verse 137.
And He says:
….and We will most certainly give to those who are patient their reward for the best of what they did._
Sūratu An-Nahl, Verse 96.
And He says:
….only the patient will be paid back their reward in full without measure._
Sūratu Az-Zumar, Verse 10.
The reward of every deeds are measured according to their proportion except patience, and for the fact that fasting is based on patience, Allāh says regarding this ‘Ibādah:
_Fasting is for Me alone and I reward therefore._
And Allāh Has promised the patient ones that He is with them, and He Has bestowed the patient ones what He Has not for others.
He says:
_Those are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and those are the followers of the right course._
Sūratu Al-Baqarah, Verse 157.
And there are many verses that talked about patience.
As regarding the Ahādīth, in the Sahīhayn, from the Hadīth of Abī Sa’īd Radiyallāhu anhu from the Prophet Sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam that He said:
_No blessing is given to a person that’s better and greater in merits than patience_
Transmitted by Imām Al-Bukhārī, #1469.
Al-Hasan said:
_Patience is a special treasure amongst the treasures of goodness, And Allāh Doesn’t bestow such a treasure except to a honorable servant in His Sight._
And some of the pious Salaf used to place a piece of paper in their pocket and they used to check it time to time and on it is the verse:
_Now await in patience the command of Your lord, for verily, you are before Our eyes._
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
