Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh- said:
Gratitude, its virtues and Blessings.
Allāh Ta’āla says:
And we shall reward those that serve us with gratitude.
Sūratu Ali-‘Imrān, Verse 145.
And Allāh says:
_what will Allāh gain by your punishment, if you are grateful and you believe?_
Sūratu An-Nisā, Verse 147.
And He says:
_But few of My servants are grateful._
Sūratu Saba, Verse 13.
And He also says:
_لئن شكرتم لأزيدنكم_
_If you are grateful, I will add more (favors) unto You._
Sūratu Ibrāhīm, Verse 7.
And He says:
_Soon Allāh will enrich you, if he wills, out of His bounty._
Sūratu At-tawbah, Verse 27.
And He says:
_If it be his will, he would remove the distress which occasioned your call upon Him._
Sūratu Al-An’ām, Verse 41.
And He says:
_Allāh bestows His abundance without measure on whom he wills._
Sūratu Al-Baqarah, Verse 212.
And He says:
_But He forgives anything else, to whom He pleases._
Sūratu An-Nisā, Verse 48.
And He says;
_For Allāh will turn in mercy to whom He wills._
Sūratu At-Tawbah, Verse 15.
And even shaitān also recognized the virtue of gratitude, that’s why he said regarding banī Ādam:
_ولا تجد أكثرهم شاكرين_
_Nor will you find, in most of them, Gratitude for Your mercies._
Sūratu Al-A’rāf, Verse 17.
It was reported that the Prophet Sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam stood in prayer till both his feet’s swelled, then ‘Āisha radiyallāhu anha then said to Him: why do You offer such unbearable prayer? The Prophet Sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam replied by saying:
_أفلا أكون عبدا شكورا_
_Should I not be a grateful Servant!._
Transmitted by Imām Al-Bukhārī#4837, and Imām Muslim #2820.
From Mu’ādh radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Rasūl sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said to me:
_إني أحبك فقل: اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك._
_I love you, so you should say; *O Allāh empower me to remember You, to be thankful to You and worship You properly.*_
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
