Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
THE LOVE OF ALLĀH FOR A SERVANT AND ITS SIGN.
As for the love of Allāh for a servant, then know that there are many verses in the glorious Qur’an which show the love of Allāh for His pious servant.
Allah says:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
…surely Allah Loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves.
Sūratu Al-Baqarah, Verse 222.
He says:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ صَفًّا كَأَنَّهُم بُنْيَانٌ مَّرْصُوصٌ.
Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as if they were a firm and compact wall.
Sūratu As-Saff, Verse 4.
And Allāh Ta’āla mentioned that He doesn’t punish those whom He loves refuting those who claimed to be his beloved ones that’s the jews and the Christians where He says:
وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَىٰ نَحْنُ أَبْنَاءُ اللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّاؤُهُ قُلْ فَلِمَ يُعَذِّبُكُم بِذُنُوبِكُم بَلْ أَنتُم بَشَرٌ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ يَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَاءُ
And the Jews and the Christians say: We are the sons of Allah and His beloved ones. Say: Why does He then chastise you for your faults? Nay, you are mortals from among those whom He has created, He forgives whom He pleases and chastises whom He pleases;
Sūratu Al-Māidah, Verse 18.
And the love of Allāh leads to forgiveness, Allāh Ta’āla says:
قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ.
Say: If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Sūratu Āli ‘Imrān, verse 31.
It is reported from Abū Hurairah Radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Rasūl Salallāhu’alayhi wasallam said:
إن الله تعالى يقول: ما يزال عبدي يتقرب إلي بالنوافل حتى أحبه.
Allāh Ta’āla said: My servant keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nāwafil till I love him.
Transmitted by Imām Al-Bukhārī#6502.
Amongst the sign of love of Allāh for a servant, is the statement of the Rasūl Salallāhu’alayhi wasallam where He Said:
إن الله إذا أحب عبدا ابتلاه
When Allāh loves a servant, He afflicts him.
Transmitted by Imām At-tirmidhī#77/7.
When Allāh love a servant, he bestows upon him a good behaviour, and a good up bringing, and stamps Imān in his heart and brightens his mind and gives him ability to shun away from despicable attitudes. And makes the servant to be preoccupied with His obedience.
