Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Being pleased with What conflicts the Desires.
Know that, man can be pleased with what conflicts his desires to achieve a certain goal.
For instance, one can bear pains in order to attain recovery from a sickness even though ones dislikes the pains.
Likewise, whoever travels for a business bears hardship during the journey for the benefits of the business he may achieve at the end.
Thus, whoever suffers a trial from Allah Ta’āla and has deep Yaqīn in Allāh, expects reward more than what he was afflicted with. Therefore, he will be pleased with it and praises Allāh Ta’āla for it.
And may be overwhelmed with love so much that he doesn’t feel the pain and this is not surprising, for a fighter in a state of anger or fear may not feel the pain of his injury since his heart is totally preoccupied with his situation.
Al-Junayd Rahimahullāhu said:
I asked Saryya: does a lover feel the pain of tribulation? He said: No.
It has been reported from those who are afflicted with pains that they used to say: Even if we are cut apart, that will not decrease our love for Allāh.
And this is further buttressed by the story of those women who cut their hands on seeing prophet Yūsuf ‘alayhissam and they didn’t feel any pain as a result of that.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
