Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Know verily – may the blessings of Allāh Ta’āla be upon you – that, unlimited hopes are caused by two major reasons:
1). Love of Dunya
Whenever one is carried away by the Dunya, its luxuries and amusement, it becomes difficult for one to denounce the Dunya. Hence, one never thinks of death which is the gate to loose the luxuries. Such a person is busy with all sorts of aspirations be it wealth and families.
His heart is engrossed with wishful thinking, and doesn’t think about death. Thus, he wishes for eternal life in this transitory world.
Whenever he thinks of death, he postponed its preparation by saying: “I still have time for preparation, so I will repent when I become older.”
Whenever he progresses in age, he postponed the repentance to another time by using a different obstacle as a pretext.
He will continue such adjournment till he breathes his last and overtaken by death. Such a person will have a everlasting regret.
Most of the dwellers of Hell where lured due to their unlimited aspirations and postponement of repentance. And it’s due love of Dunya and negligence.
2). Ignorance.
Is for one to fill at ease due to one’s youthful age and never prepared for death thinking that it only inflicts the old men.
One wonders if the this young man doesn’t know that the percentage of death rate amongst the old men compared to the young men is about one- tenth.
And one may be deceived by his health status and forgotten that death may come suddenly. And even when that doesn’t happen, one may fall ill at anytime. Being ill, death draws nearer.
Therefore, know that, death has no specific time, it comes suddenly either in winter, summer, day or night, and it has no precise age, just get yourself prepared for its arrival.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
