Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Stages of People regarding Aspirations.
Know verily that, people vary regarding hopes. Amongst them are those who wish to have a long life, Some of them have unlimited hopes while others only have limited aspirations.
In this regard, Uthmān Al-Hindī said:
I am a hundred and thirty years old, I have realised that there is nothing that doesn’t wane away with time except my aspirations.
It is reported from Muhammad bn Abī Tawbah who said:
Ma’rūf called prayer and asked me to lead them. Then I said: if I should lead in this prayer, I may not lead you in another. Ma’rūf said: Do you expect to perform another Prayer? We seek refuge in Allāh from long hopes, for it prevents good deeds.
This is the situations of the Zuhhād regarding little ambitions. Thus, the more short aspirations you possessed, the more perfect your good deeds since one realised that one may pass away at any moment, hence, one prepared for it.
Whenever one lives till evening, one should Express gratitude to Allāh by utilising the time for good deeds.
It is reported In the Sahīh Al-Bukhārī from Ibn ‘Abbās Radiyallāhu anhu who said: the Rasūl Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
There are two blessings which many people are unaware of their importance: They are Health and Free time.
In this context, Al-Hasan said:
I wonder about people who were commanded to prepare and called to depart this Dunya, death has overtaken their forefathers but they are in heedlessness and unwise.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
