Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
The Death of Abī Bakr As-siddīq Radiyallāhu anhu.
Abū Mulaih reported that when Abūbakr was on his deathbed he called ‘Umar Radiyallāhu anhu and said to him:
I want to give you some advice, verily, Allāh Has right on you at night, which He never accepts on daytime, and Allah Has right on you on daytime, which he never takes at night, and Allāh never admit the voluntary ibādat except the obligatory one is performed. The scales of judgement are heavy by holding firm to the truth in this Dunya, and they are light by adherence to falsehood. Have you not considered how Allāh combined verses of hope with those of fear and vice versa so that a servant can call Him hoping and fearing. Thus, if you stick to this my advice, the dearest absent thing to you will be your death which is inevitable, and if you overlook this my advice, death will be the most hatred thing to you which is inescapable.
And it was said that when Abūbakr Radiyallāhu anhu was about to pass away, ‘Āishah Radiyallāhu anha expressed her grief. Abūbakr Radiyallāhu anhu said to her. No, don’t say that, you should rather say:
وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ
And the stupor of death will come in truth; that is what you were trying to escape.
Sūratu Qāf, Verse 19.
Then He said ( Radiyallāhu anhu):
These are two clothes, wash them and wrap me within. The living is the one in need of new things not the dead one.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
