The Manners of At-tasawwuf
Oh beloved son, know that At-tasawwuf has two major manners: steadfastness on the path and good manners to others.
Hence, whoever remains steadfast and behaves good to others, being lenient with them, is a sūfiyy.
And Al-listiqāmah is for a servant to stick to the path of Allāh the way he is ordered.
Relating with people based on what is apparent in accordance with the Shar’i and not suspecting their thoughts.
Know that, Al-‘ubudiyyah is divided into three:
1). Being watchful of Allāh’s Commandments.
2). Being pleased with the predestination of Allāh.
3). Seeking the pleasure of Allāh Ta’āla Alone.
Tawakkul is for you to rely on Allāh alone and to supplicate to Allāh Alone for help. And remember that, if all the people gather to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allāh had foreordained for you. And if all of them gather to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything other than that which Allah had pre-destined against you.
Sincerity is for you to build your deeds solely for the sake of Allāh Ta’āla and should not make the praises or blames of others your concern.
However, showoff is to seek the pleasures of others in deeds and this causes glorifying them out of context
And the cure for this is for you to know that all creations are under the control and power of Allāh Ta’āla. They are just as though dead ones which can neither benefits nor harms.
And other matters can be found in books, seek them there while others are not grasped except through taste.
Hence, act on what you know so that what you don’t know can be unveiled to you.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
