Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Accountability after work.
Allāh Ta’āla said:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent on for the morrow, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.
Sūratu Al-Hashr, Verse 18.
This shows calling oneself to account after one’s deeds.
Al-Hasan Rahimahullāhu said:
A believer holds himself responsible for his deeds.
Know verily that, the believer is guided and secured by the glorious Qur’an. Hence, the believer is as though a captive in this world who seeks to set himself free from captivity, he never feel safe from anything until he meet Allāh Ta’āla. And he knows that he is accountable for what he hears, sees, speaks and all the deeds of his organs.
Also, you are expected to crosscheck your capital of deeds at the end of the day, its profits and losses so that you may understand whether you are running at lost or gain.
Your capital here signifies your obligations, the profits stands for nawāfil and mustahab, and the losses are the sins.
Therefore, you should first account for the obligations, but if you committed a sin, then you should seek repentance instantly, hold yourselves accountable for your breaths and even your thoughts.
For if you were to throw a stone for each sin you committed, he would fill a vast house within a short time. But alas, you were negligent regarding these sins but they are recorded against you in your book.
Allāh says:
أحصاه الله ونسوه
Allāh Has reckoned its(value), though they may have forgotten it.
Sūratu Al-Mujādalah, Verse 6.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
23rd Jumādal Ath-thānī, 1441H.
