_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
Know verily – may the blessings of Allāh Ta’āla be upon you – that, arrogant is a hidden character but it clearly appears on the organs during action.
Arrogance is for a person to see himself better than others in status and level just because of what Allāh Has bestowed upon him of His mercy. For this reason, he sees others as unimportant and insignificant. And this is different from self conceit. For in self conceit, a person only gets impressed by himself and his nature.
That means, if we assume that a person was the only one created on earth, he may still be a self conceited person, but it is not possible for him to be arrogant except in the presence of others that he may consider himself better than them.
Therefore, whenever a man sees himself as though a great person worthy of respect and honor, he will surely belittle others and disregard them. He may even see them as worthless than a donkey.
Hence, the calamities of pride are great and they destroy people, and even the devout worshippers, zuhhād and the ulama are not exempted from this bad character.
This is because the Rasūl Sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam was reported to have said:
_”ﻻَ ﻳَﺪْﺧُﻞُ ﺍﻟْﺠَﻨَّﺔَ ﻣَﻦْ ﻛَﺎﻥَ ﻓِﻲ ﻗَﻠْﺒِﻪِ ﻣِﺜْﻘَﺎﻝُ ﺫَﺭَّﺓٍ ﻣِﻦْ ﻛِﺒْﺮٍ.”_
_”He shall not enter Jannah he who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance.”_
