AT-TAWHĪD AND AT-TAWAKKUL
Allah Ta’āla says:
_….and whoever trusts in Allāh, He is sufficient for him; surely Allāh attains His purpose; Allāh indeed has appointed a measure for everything._
Sūratu At-talāq, Verse 3.
In an Hadīth, Ibn Abbās Radiyallāhu anhu said: the Prophet Salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said:
_The people were displayed in front of me and I saw one prophet passing by with a large group of his followers, and another prophet passing by with only a small group of people, and another prophet passing by with only ten (persons), and another prophet passing by with only five (persons), and another prophet passed by alone. And then I looked and saw a large multitude of people, so I asked Gabriel, “Are these people my followers?’ He said, ‘No, but look towards the horizon.’ I looked and saw a very large multitude of people. Gabriel said. ‘Those are your followers, and there are seventy thousand (persons) in front of them who will neither have any reckoning of their accounts nor will receive any punishment.’ I asked, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘For they used not to treat themselves with branding (cauterization) nor with Ruqya (get oneself treated by the recitation of some Verses of the Qur’an) and not to see evil omen in things, and they used to put their trust (only) in their Lord.” On hearing that, ‘Ukasha bin Mihsan got up and said (to the Prophet), “Invoke Allāh to make me one of them.” The Prophet Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said, “O Allāh, make him one of them.” Then another man got up and said (to the Prophet), “Invoke Allāh to make me one of them.” The Prophet Salallāhu’alayhi wasallam said: ‘Ukasha has preceded you._

Firstly: It is for a servant to have deep trust in the oneness of Allāh and to say there is no deity worthy of worship except Allāh and He has no partner, All Mulk and praises is due to Him, He is the omnipotent.
Secondly: To believe that all creations are created by Allāh alone, and this is the state of the devout ones.
Thirdly: To believe that Allāh Controls the whole universe. To fear Him, Hope from Him and to rely upon Him alone. Also one should not rely fully on Asbāb(means). Rather, one should know that those Asbāb were placed by Allāh. Thus, one should rely on Him not the Asbāb.
In this context, one should not depend only on rain for planting nor cloud for rain, nor wind for driving the ship. For depending on these means solely is an act of ignorance of the highest order.
But the one with deep foresight, Imān and understanding, knows that wind cannot move an inch except with the permission of Allāh.
Therefore, the similitude of a servant who depends meanly on wind for the movement of the ship is as though a servant who was to be executed but was pardoned by the king. However, instead of him thanking the king, he was busy thanking the pen and paper that was used for the amnesty decree, and this is a peak ignorance.
Thus, whoever knows that the pen has no power in itself to alter a decision without its writer, will surely hasten to give thanks to its writer rather than the pen.
If that is the case, the supremacy of Allāh Ta’āla upon His creations is far greater and can never be compared to that of the pen in the hand of its writer and exalted be He in High exaltation above that comparison.
