Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-
Said:
One should try to make his last word before sleeping and after getting up the Dhikr of Allah, Most High. For this shows that one has true imaan in his heart.
The fifth wird of the night.
This wird starts from the first half of the night until the last one sixth of the night. This is a precious time.
In this context, Abu zarr radiyallaahu anhu said:
” I asked the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam which time of the night in it Qiyam Al-Layl is more virtuous? The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam then said:” In the midnights, and few people do pray at the time.”
Transmitted and recorded by Ibn Hibban and Shaykh Al Albaani declared it as Sahih In “Atta’liqaat Al- Hisan ‘Ala Sahihi Ibn Hibban#2555.”
When one wakes up to offer Qiyam Al-Layl, one is recommended to read the last ten verses of Surat Al I’mran. This is in accordance to a Hadith reported in Sahihayn( Imaam Bukhaari #183 and Imaam Muslim #763).
One is also encouraged to commence Qiyam Al-Layl with two short Rak’at.
In this context, it is reported from Abu Hurairah radiyallaahu anhu who said_ the Messenger of Allah said:
” When anyone of you gets up at night, he should begin the prayer with two short Rak’at.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Muslim in his ‘Sahih’#868.
Lastly, Aisha radiyallaahu anha reports that the Messenger of Allah used to offer thirteen Rak’at of Qiyam Al-Layl and that included the witr.
Allaahu A’alam! Baarakallaahu feekum!
