_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
As for the benefits of wealth, it contains that which has to do with the Deen and the dunya affairs.
As for the dunya matters, it is well known by people, that’s why they by all means destroyed themselves in its pursuit.
As for the Deen: it can be summarized into three parts.
1). For one to spend it on oneself, whether on ‘Ibādāt like pilgrimage and Jihād, or to assist one on the ‘Ibādāt such as food, wears, place for living, and the likes which are of the necessity of life generally.
For verily, if all these necessities are not gotten easily and are difficult to be acquired, the heart will not completely submit itself for the deen and Ibādāt, for it may be distracted by suiting for those necessities. And anything that Ibādah cannot be attained except with it becomes an ‘ibādah in itself.
Thus, taking what is sufficient from the dunya in order to assist one on the deen is amongst the major roles that wealth plays for the deen.
However, these doesn’t include the luxuries, amusement, nor taking that which is more than basic necessities, for that is of no benefit for the deen except the worldly affairs.
