Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisī -rahimahullāh-
Said:
Know that means of removing harms are of three categories:
1). That which are definite, such as water is used to quench thirst, and food for hunger, and giving up all these is not of tawakkul.
2). An estimated means, like taking drugs to cure certain illness, for the Rasūl salallāhu’alayhi wasallam was reported to have taken medicines and He ordered taking drugs to cure diseases.
3). Imaginary means, like cauterizing, then this is out of Tawakkul since the Rasūl salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam Has described those relying on Allāh as those who neither cauterize. Though some ‘Ulama upheld that the meaning of _cauterize_ has to do with what is been done in the Jahiliyyah era.
