Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abu Musa Al-Asha’ri Radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam used to supplicate by saying:
اللهم اغفر لي خطيئتي وجهلي، وإسرافي في أمري، وماأنت أعلم به مني، اللهم اغفرلي جدي وهزلي، وخطئي وعمدي، وكل ذلك عندي، اللهم اغفر لي ماقدمت وماأخرت، وماأسررت وماأعلنت، وماأنت أعلم به مني، أنت المقدم، وأنت المؤخر، وأنت على كل شيء قدير”ً متفق عليه
Allahumma Ighfirli, khatihati Wajahli, Waisraafi fi Amri, Wama anta A’alamu bihi minni, Allahumma Igfirli jiddi wahazli, wakhatihati waa’mdi, wakullu dhalika I’ndi. Allahumma Igfirli Maqaddamtu wama Akhkhartu wama Asrartu wama A’alantu wama Anta A’alamu bihi minni, Antal muqaddim wa antal muakhkhar, wa anta A’la kulli Shaihin qadirun “. Mutaffaqun A’layhi
Meaning: “Oh Allah! Forgive me my mistakes, my ignorance, my immoderation in my affairs. And You know better my affairs than myself. Oh Allah! Grant me forgiveness of the faults which I committed seriously or jokingly and which I committed unintentionally and deliberately.
All these errors are in me. Oh Allah! Forgive me my errors, which I did in haste or deferred, and which I committed in privacy and in public and You are better aware of it than myself. You are the First and the Last and over all things You Are Omnipotent.”
Agreed Upon.
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in his “Sahih”#6399 and Imaam Muslim in “Sahih”#2719.
