Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Anas radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam used to supplicate by saying:
اللهم، انفعني بما علمتني، وعلمني ما ينفعني، وارزقني علما ينفعني ًً رواه النسائي في الكبرى (٤٤٤/٤) والحاكم
في المسدرك(١/ ٦٩٠)، (١٨٧٩)، وقال: صحيح على شرط مسلم.
“Allahumma, infa’ni bimaa ‘Allamtani, wa ‘Allimni Maa yanfau’ni, warzuqni ‘Ilman yanfau’ni”
Rawahu Annasaai wa Al-Haakim
Meaning: Oh Allah! Give me benefit in what you have taught me, and teach me what will benefit me and provide me with knowledge that will benefit me.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam An-Nasaai in “Al-Kubra”(#4/444) and Imaam Al-Haakim in Al-Mustadrak#(1/670),(1879) and He said: it is Sahih on the Shart of Imaam Muslim.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
♦ It encourages one to pray to Allah to give him useful knowledge.
♦ It discourages one to seek for knowledge that is not beneficial to him in this dunya and Hereafter.
♦ It shows the importance of the Dua’.
