It is reported from Abdullah Ibn Amru Ibn Al’aas radiyallaahu anhumaa from the prophet – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
“Allah’s pleasure results from the parent’s pleasure, and Allah’s displeasure results from the parent’s displeasure.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam At-Tirmidhi in his ”Sunan”# 1899 and Ibn Hibbaan in his “sahih”#429 and also Al-Hakim in his “Mustadrak”(4/168/7249).
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1. It is Haraam to disobey and to show lack of respect to parent.
2. Obeying parent within the limit of the shar’ah lead to Allah’s pleasure.
3. It is not allowed to obey parent in the disobedience of Allah. Allah says in Suratul Al-Ankabut, Verse 8:
And We have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to Me is your return, so I will inform you of what you did.
4. It shows the status of parent in Islam.
