DAILY POST #55
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abdullahi Ibn Amru Ibn Al’aas radiyallaahu anhumah- who said – The Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“It is among the major sins for a man to insult his parent.”It was said: does a man insult his own parent ?He said (I.e the messenger of Allah salallahu alayhi wasallam):Yes, He insults a man’s father who in turn insults his own father too, and He insults a man’s mother who in turn insults his own mother too”. Agreed upon.
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in “Adabul Mufrad”5973 ” and Imaam Muslim in his ” Sahih ” #90.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1. It indicates that to insult one’s parent is among the kabaa’ir(major sin) and it is Haraam in Islam.
2. It shows that by insulting another man’s parent, one is automatically insulting his own parent at the same time. And it is Haraam to say “ufh”(a word of contempt) to parent. Then in that case, it is even more bad and evil to insult them. Allah says in Suratul Al-Isra, Verse 23:
“And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them (so much as) “Ufh” nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word”.
3. It shows how Islam safeguard the honor of parent. Therefore, their honor or dignity are not to be tempered with.
