DAILY POST #99
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani rahimahullaah said:
It is reported from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“A cunning person, a miser and one who treats people under his authority badly will not enter Paradise.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam At-Tirmidhi in his “Sunan”#1946, #1963 and there is a weakness in
its chain of narrators. Imaam Al Albani declared the hadith to be weak in Dahiful Jami’a#6339,#6340.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1. It shows that the cunning or crafty person will not enter Paradise. A cunning person is one whose words or actions are not straight forward. He is very tricky and deceptive in nature and his actions are full of lies and treachery.
2. It discourages miserliness. A miser is one who does not spend on himself and his family according to his means, and also he does not spend on any charitable purpose. Miserliness has been condemned in many verses of the Qur’an and some authentic Aahaadith.
3. It indicates that the one who treats people under his authority badly or unjustly will not enter Aljannah. Treating people unjustly is an oppression in itself and Allah Has forbidden oppression. And we have mentioned some authentic Ahaadith that show that oppression is abhorrent in Islam. For more explanation, you can check our daily post #75.
4. Lastly, the hadith is weak. But there are some authentic Ahaadith of similar meaning with the above hadith. Weak hadith is not used as evidence in the sharia but it is permissible to translate the hadith and to show its weakness.
