Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
And the evidence which shows that the soul never come to an end after death is where Allāh Ta’āla says:
وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتًا بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ
And reckon not those who are killed in Allah’s way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord;
Sūratu Āli-‘Imrān, Verse 169.

We asked ‘Abdullāhi Ibn Mas’ūd about this verse. He said: Their souls live in the bodies of green birds who have their nests in chandeliers hung from the throne of Allāh Ta’āla. They eat the fruits of Jannah from wherever they like and then nestle in these chandeliers.

Allāh Ta’āla says:
The fire; they shall be brought before it (every) morning and evening and on the day when the hour shall come to pass: cast you the people of Pharaoh into the severest penalty.
Sūratu Ghāfir, Verse 46.
This Verse shows that the Disobedient ones are punished after death.
In the Sahīhayn, from Ibn ‘Umar Radiyallāhu anhuma who said: The Rasūl Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
When anyone of you dies, he is shown his seat( in the Hereafter) morning and evening: if he is amongst the inmates of Jannah, ( he is shown the seat) from amongst the inmates of Jannah and if he is one from amongst the dwellers of Hell, ( he is shown the seat) from amongst the dwellers of Hell, and it would be said to him: That’s your seat until Allāh raises you on the Day of Resurrection ( and sends you to proper seat).

We have already established that a sinner will regret for his sins after death, As for the Believer, ‘Abdullāhi Ibn ‘Umar Radiyallāhu anhuma said:
The similitude of a Believer when his soul departs from the body is as though that of a prisoner who is set free, for he moves around the way he likes. After the death of a believer, the blessings and favours of Allāh are uncovered to Him in a way that resembles a prisoner in a dark frightful house who has a very wide door opened before him. And this door leads to a very spacious garden which is full of various trees. Hence, he doesn’t like returning to this world as he hate retuning back to his mother’s womb.
And Mujāhid said:
Verily, a believer is given the glad tidings of the righteousness of his child after him to make him happy.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
