_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
*ENVY AND GRUDGES.*
Know verily – may the mercy of Allāh Taā’la be upon you – that, if one restrains one’s anger due to incapability of expressing it at the spot, it later sinks into the heart and becomes enmity.
Thus, its signs is the existence of hatred in one’s heart, grudges is the fruit of anger, and envy is amongst the consequences of enmity.
In this context, it is reported from our beloved Messenger sallallāhu ālayhi wasallam that He says:
*”ﻻَ ﺗَﺤَﺎﺳَﺪُﻭﺍ ﻭَﻻَ ﺗَﺒَﺎﻏَﻀُﻮﺍ ﻭَﻻَ ﺗَﻘَﺎﻃَﻌُﻮﺍ ﻭَﻛُﻮﻧُﻮﺍ ﻋِﺒَﺎﺩَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺇِﺧْﻮَﺍﻧًﺎ.”*
*”Nurse no grudge, nurse no aversion and do not sever ties of kinship and live like fellow-brothers as servants of Allah.”*
Transmitted and recorded by Imām Al-bukhāri in his ‘Sahih’#6065 and Imām Muslim in his ‘Sahih’#2559.
And also, Ibn sīrīn was reported to have said:
“I have never envy anybody on what has to do with the worldly affairs, for if such a person happens to be of the dwellers of Jannah, then, why should I envy him on things of the worldly matters whereas his final destination is the jannah, and if he happens to be of the people of hell, then, why should I also envy him whereas his final home is the hell.”
In this regard, Iblīs said to prophet Nuh ālayhissalatu wassalam:
I warn you against envy, for it is what led me to this my present situation.
Hence, one should hasten to desist oneself from envy and grudges for they cause a lot of misfortunes and setback within the communities.
