Fast out of faith and hope of Reward.
Oh beloved ummah, hasten to protect your fasting from showoff, pride. Rather, fast out of faith and in order to attain great reward in the sight of your lord, The Almighty.
The Messenger salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said in a Hadīth reported in the Sahīhayn:
ﻣَﻦْ ﺻَﺎﻡَ ﺭَﻣَﻀَﺎﻥَ ﺇِﻳﻤَﺎﻧًﺎ ﻭَﺍﺣْﺘِﺴَﺎﺑًﺎ ﻏُﻔِﺮَ ﻟَﻪُ ﻣَﺎ ﺗَﻘَﺪَّﻡَ ﻣِﻦْ ﺫَﻧْﺒِﻪِ
Whoever fasts Ramadān out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven._
Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalānī Rahimahullāhu said in the Sharh of this Hadith:
The statement: out of faith means to testify to the promise of Allāh giving reward, and the statement: hoping for reward means to seek for reward not to showoff and the likes
Fasting out of faith and hope of reward make one to be pleased and happy with the fast, one’s heart sets at rest, and to also give gratitude to Allāh for sparing one’s life to witness Ramadān.
Oh Allāh, make us amongst those that fast out of Imān and hope of Reward, Āmīn.
