Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-
Said:
This is the case of the angels, Prophets, ‘Ulama and the awliyā regarding the fear of Allāh, but we are in the best position to fear Allāh due to our shortcomings not them.
Although, fear is not due to muchness of sins, rather it is reflected by purity of the heart and deep Insight.
What makes us feel secured from the punishment of Allāh is our ignorance and crusted heart we possessed.
Pure heart is always moved and feel trembled by a little fear, while a hardened heart is not affected by substantial admonitions.
A Salaf Said:
I said to a monk: advise me, he replied: if you can be as though a man attacked by leopard, he fears and takes heed less he should be devoured by the leopard, then do so. I then said: add more of the admonition, he replied: Little water suffices the thirsty person.
What this monk advised of one acting as though a man attacked by leopard, is the true nature of a sincere believer. For whosoever double checks his real situation with the light of deep Insight and knowledge, realizes that it is fully engolved with wild vices such as anger, hatred, envy, arrogance, pride, showoff and the likes. All these vices are seeking to devour a servant if he deviates a little from the straight path and ignores them, except that a servant is screened from seeing the true nature of those vices.
However, when the veil is uncovered after death, and he was placed in the grave, those vices became snakes and scorpions stinging him in all direction, and their attributes can only be known now in this world.
Hence, whoever wants to overcome i.e ( the vices which turn into snakes and scorpions) and kill them, then he should hasten to do that today, if not, then he should prepare himself for their stinging of his heart let alone his flesh and the bones.
Allāhu A’alam.
