Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah said:
It is praiseworthy and encouraged to seek for all the knowledge of the Ash-shar’ia.
Al-u’lumu Ash-shar’ia can also be classified into;
♦ Al-usul.
These are the foundation and pillars of the Deen. They serves as the source for the derivation of Hukm.
These sources are:
- كتاب الله تعالى (Qur’an)
- سنة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (Hadith)
- إجماع الأمة (consensus of the Ummah)
- آثار الصحابة (The Hathar of the companions).
♦ Al-Furu’u
This has to with the elaboration of rules which govern ritual and social activities.
♦ Al-Muqaddimaat.
These are tools that assist one to have deep and full understanding of the knowledge of the sharia. Examples are lexicography, grammar etc. These tools are basically called I’lmu Al-Alaat in Arabic.
♦ Al-Mutammimaat.
These has to do with the knowledge of the different ways of how to recite the Quran, the knowledge of knowing the men of narrators of Hadith.
