Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Thābitu Al-bānī said:
I endured performing Tahhajud for twenty years and enjoyed it for twenty years.
Know that, if the censuring of the heart is built on love, then the heart will not dwindle, and these cases are many amongst salaf. And the lover always hasten to please his beloved one and to serve him.
Hence, whoever loves his beloved more than wealth, laziness and everything, he would surely forsake those things in order to please or to attain status in the sight of His beloved one.
Amongst the signs of love of a servant for Allāh, is to treat all His servants kindly and gently and to be harsh against His enemies.
Allah says:
أشداء على الكفار رحماء بينهم
Strong against kuffār, but compassionate amongst each other.
And he shouldn’t fear the blame of a blamer in pleasing Allāh. Also, his love should be combined with fear, glorification and he should hide it and avoid its propagation.
And these are the signs of love of servant for Allāh.
Therefore, whoever fulfils these signs, has indeed attained the sincere love for Allāh, and he has secured pleasure in the Hereafter.
