_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
*MEANS OF SALVATION.*
*At-tawbah, its conditions and its pillars.*
Know verily that, sins serve as blockage between a person and His lord, the most High.
Thus, shunning away from those things that distance a servant from Allāh is a wājib which should not be compromised in any form.
However, this can only be accomplished by means of sound knowledge, repentance, and determination. But if he is not aware that sins are those things that serve as barrier between him and Allāh, he will neither regret for the sins nor feel pain for following the path that distance him from Allāh, and if he doesn’t feel pain, he will surely not desist from such wrong path.
And indeed, Allāh Ta’āla Has commanded His servants to make tawbah, He says:
_وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ_
_…and turn to Allah all of you, O believers! so that you may be successful._
Sūratu An-Nūr, Verse 31.
_يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَّصُوحًا…_
_O you who believe! turn to Allah a sincere turning;.._
Sūratu At-Tahrīm, Verse 8.
And the Messenger salallāhu ālayhi wasallam said:
_يأيها الناس توبوا إلى ربكم، فإني أتوب إلى الله في اليوم مائة مرة._
_O people, seek repentance from Allāh. Verily, I seek repentance from Him one hundred times a Day._

In the “Sahīhayn” from the Hadīth of Ibn Mash’ūd Radiyallāhu anhu, that the Messenger salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said:
_Allāh is more pleased with the repentance of His slave Servant than a man who encamps at a place where his life is jeopardized, but he has his riding beast carrying his food and water. He then rests his head and sleeps for a short while and wakes to find his riding beast gone. He starts looking for it and suffers from severe heat and thirst or what Allāh wished (him to suffer from). He then says, ‘ I will go back to my place. He returns and sleeps again, and then ( getting up), he raises his head to find his riding beast standing beside him carrying his provisions of food and drink. Allāh is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than the recovery of this riding beast along with the provisions ( of food and drink)._
