The Hanafi Imaam and Polymath, Expert at Law and Pious Master Abu Al-Husayn Ahmad bn Muhammad bn Ahmad bn Ja’afar bn Hamdaan was popularly known as Al-Quduuri, he was the Imaam of the Hanafiyyah in Iraaq. Imaam Abu Is’haaq Ash-Shiraazi, the Shaafi’i Polymath and Prominent Forerunner who was his contemporary considered him the Noblest of the Hanafi School of their generation.
Al-Quduuri was excellent in speech, pious and noble in character, he excelled his colleagues in the Sciences of Fiqh, Hadith and Qur’an. He would sit in the gatherings of the Scholars and debate the likes of Al-Isfaraayini the Shaafi’i Master. Al-Khatib Al-Baghdaadi said of him in the Ta’arikh “To him referred the generality of the leadership of the Hanafi School in Iraaq”
He was born 362 years after the Hijrah and took from the Cream of the Fuqahaa and Ulamaa of his time. Of them were the Faqih Muhammad bn Yahaya Al-Jurjaani, the Muhaddith Ubaydullah bn Ahmad Ash-Shaybaani and the Muhaddith Abubakr Muhammad bn Suwaid Al-Mu’addab rahimahumullaah.
He was a teacher to several hundreds. Of them are the Imams Abubakr As-Sarakhsi, Mufaddal At-Tanukhi, Abdul Waahid Al-‘Akbari and Al-Khatib Al-Badhdaadi rahimahumullaah.
He was the author of so many books. Of them is the Mukhtasar which was the backbone of most Hanafi Books of Fiqh after him. His Mukhtasar takes a similar position as the Risaalah of Ibn Abi Zayd in the Maaliki School.
