Reflection!!!: One Thousand Four Hundred and Forty Four Years After Hijrah

*REFLECTION!!*

*ONE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR YEARS AFTER HIJRAH*

It is time for us to reflect on the past year and it is also time for us to plan ahead, to start with the end on mind.
A Muslim needs to reflect, this is not a moment of celebration but it’s a moment of reflection. We need to reflect in what we did the past year and we need to look into our sins and repent to Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala.

Umar Ibn Khattab (radiyallahu anhu) said:

“حاسبوا أنفسكم قبل أن تحاسبوا،وزنوا اعمالكم قبل أن توزنوا”
Hold yourself accountable before you are held accountable and weigh your deeds before they are weighed for you.

Let’s look at what we have done, don’t forget it because Allāh won’t forget, everything is written down.

Even if it’s the equivalent of a grain, Allāh​ would bring it and place it on the scale

وَنَضَعُ الْمَوَازِينَ الْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْئًا وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَاسِبِينَ

ِ(And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, we will bring it. And Sufficient are we as Reckoners. Sūrah 21:47).

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ, وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ

(If you do an equivalent of one single atom of good you would be rewarded and if you do one single atom of evil, you will be held accountable for it. Sūrah 99:7-8).

So let’s hold ourselves accountable for the past year. And then let’s plan ahead, we cannot afford to be a heedless ummah.
The greatest disease is ghaflah (negligence)

وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْحَسْرَةِ إِذْ قُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَةٍ وَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

(And warn them (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) of the Day of grief and regrets, when the case has been decided, while (now) they are in a state of carelessness, and they believe not. Sūrah 19:39).

We cannot be in ghaflah! We need to wake up and you have to know what you want to do and what your objective is.
A Muslim cannot just live for the sake of living and make it through the day. That’s not appropriate for a Muslim.
Allāh has said that that is the style of cattle in Sūrah 25:44

أَمْ تَحْسَبُ أَنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَوْ يَعْقِلُونَ ۚ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا كَالْأَنْعَامِ ۖ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا

( Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle-nay, they are even farther astray from the path [i.e. even worse than cattle).

The ones who do not think, do not hear and do not see, Allāh said they are like cattle, but then Allāh said Nay! They are even worse.
Because you can’t expect more from cattle. We have to know what we want. What is it exactly that you gonna do for the religion of Allāh.

*Plan ahead… don’t let your time be controlled by your whims or by shaytān. You have to know exactly what you gonna do next for your religion, Am I gonna give sadaqa?*
*Am I gonna fast?*
*Am I gonna make khattam of Qur’ān?*
*What am I going to learn?*
*What is my objective?*
*What is my eventual objective in life?*
*What do I want to achieve?*

*And at the top of your priority list should be the rights and obligations that you have towards Allāh and what comes next is your family and yourself. But don’t have this list upside down.*

*Allāh needs to come first.*
