_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*SECLUSION.*
Know verily that, ulamaa are of different opinion regarding seclusion and mixing with others, which of the two opinions is better and have more virtues? Though, both solitude and companionship have virtues and vices.
The majority of the azzuhhad(asceticism) chooses seclusion as against mixing with people.
Amongst our predecessors that preferred isolation are Sufyān Ath-thawrī, Ibrāhīm Ibn Ad’ham, Dawud Attāhi, fudail and others, may Allāh have mercy on them all Āmīn.
However, amongst those ulamaa that preferred companionship as against seclusion are Saíd Ibn Al-Musayyib, Asha-Sha’bī and others rahimahullāhumu Allāh.
Each of these groups(either isolation or companionship) have their evidences to buttress the stand they took. In Shā Allāh we shall mention the evidences of each group.
