Imām Abū ‘Abdullah Muhammad bn Abī Bakr bn Ayyub Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah said:
Allāh Has distinguished this servant with this quality because He knows he will not persist on the sin, and that, whenever he commits sin, he hasten to seek for repentance thereof.
And this applies to whosoever falls in the same situation. It is as certain for these servants as it is for the people of Badr, and all those who were giving glade tidings of Jannah by the Rasūl salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam or to say to be forgiven. And they never see that as an opportunity to commit sins and abandon the obligatory aspects of the Dīn. Rather, these people were of high status in terms of the fear of Allāh, caution and piety.
For instance, Abubakr Radiyallāhu ‘anhu happened to fear Allāh the most, likewise Umar Radiyallāhu ‘anhu. For they realize that general statement of forgiveness is always attached to its conditions and being firm on the path till death. And it is restricted with the absence of its impediment. And none amongst them considered that they were given free will to do whatever they wanted.
