_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
Know verily – may the blessings of Allāh Ta’āla be upon you – that, self amazement leads to arrogance because it is one of its causes. Thus, self amazement gives birth to arrogance, and there is a lot of calamities that arrogance can cause and this is even in case of the relationship between creation.
As for that with the creator, then feeling proud with good deeds is like one is laying Allāh under an obligation with one’s deeds, and forgotten the blessings of Allāh for the tawfiq to carry out the act, and one has also shunned away the setbacks of such despicable behavior.
Self amazement is also for one to feel total perfection due to one’s knowledge or deeds.
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
