Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Self Censorship and Accountability.
Allāh Ta’āla says:
On the day that every soul shall find present what it has done of good and what it has done of evil, it shall wish that between it and that (evil) there were a long duration of time; and Allah makes you to be cautious of (retribution from) Himself; and Allah is Compassionate to the servants.
Sūratu Āli ‘Imrān, Verse 30.
And He says:
And We will set up a just balance on the day of resurrection, so no soul shall be dealt with unjustly in the least; and though there be the weight of a grain of mustard seed, (yet) will We bring it, and sufficient are We to take account.
Sūratu Al-Anbiya, Verse 47.
And He says:
And the Book shall be placed, then you will see the guilty fearing from what is in it, and they will say: Ah! woe to us! what a book is this! it does not omit a small one nor a great one, but numbers them (all); and what they had done they shall find present (there); and your Lord does not deal unjustly with anyone.
Sūratu Al-Kahf, Verse 49.
And He says:
On that day men shall come forth in sundry bodies that they may be shown their works.(6) So. he who has done an atom’s weight of good shall see it (7) And he who has done an atom’s weight of evil shall see it.(8).
Sūratu Az-zulzilah, Verse 6-8.
All these verses show the importance of censoring oneself.
The people with deep insight have discovered that there is no escaping root for them except through checkmating themselves and calling themselves to account. Thus, whoever censors himself in this Dunya, his accountability in the Hereafter will be less in shā Allāh. And whoever neglects self scrutiny, will acquire losses and regret in the Hereafter.
And also know, one’s salvation in the Hereafter is based on obedience and shunning away from evils.
Allāh says:
O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, that you may be successful.
Sūratu Āli’Imrān, Verse 200.
Hence, one should endeavour to stick to a specific agreement, censorship, accountability, punishing oneself where necessary, struggling and reprimand. In shā Allāh, we shall explain these six stages in brief.
Allāhu A’alām.
