Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Sincerity, its Virtues and Essences.
Allāh Ta’āla says:
And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, upright, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, and that is the right religion.
Verse 5, sūratu Al-Bayyinah.
And He says:
أَلَا لِلَّهِ الدِّينُ الْخَالِصُ
Now, surely, sincere obedience is due to Allah (alone)…
Sūratu Azzumar, Verse 3.
It is reported from Hasan who said:
There was a tree worshipped other than Allāh Ta’āla, then a man said: I will certainly uproot this tree, he then went to the tree to uproot it sincerely, shaītan met him on his way in form of a man and said: what do you want to do? He replied: I want to uproot this tree that is worshipped other than Allāh. Shaītan said: as long you don’t worship it, then that doesn’t harm you in the least.? He said: I will surely cut it down. Shaītan then said: shouldn’t I guide you to that which is better, don’t cut it and you shall have two dīnār every morning by your pillow. The man asked: who will give them to me? Shaītan said: I will give them to you. The man then returned. When he got up in the morning, he found two Dīnār by his pillow, but in the next morning, he found nothing. So he was annoyed and hastened to cut the tree, shaitān still appeared to him in the form of a man and asked: what do you want to do? He said: I want to uproot this tree that is worshipped other than Allāh Ta’āla. Shaītan said: You are a liar, and you shall never have way to uproot it. Then the man went to the tree to uproot it but he was attacked by shaitān so much that he nearly kill him, then shaitān said to him: do you know who am I? I am shaitān. You came at first being sincere to Allāh, so I couldn’t defeat you, but I lured you with just two dīnār, you left the tree, but when you couldn’t get the dīnārs again, you came to cut it just because of the Dīnār, so I overpowered you.
It was also reported that:
A man used to dress in females clothes, and he do mix with them. One day, while he was in the gathering of the women, a pearl was stolen from one of the women. So people said: all doors should be closed so that we can search everyone. So every women was search one after the other except the man and another woman who are left to be searched. The man then called to Allāh sincerely by saying: Oh Allāh, If I am saved from this Disgrace, I will never do it again. Thus, they found the pearl with the other woman and said: Set her( the man who dressed like a woman) free, indeed we have found the pearl.
