_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*STEADFASTNESS OF THE HEART ON GOOD.*
know verily, may Allāh be with you that, in this regard, it has been reported that our beloved Messenger sallallāhu ‘alayhi used to say:
_يا مقلب القلوب ثبت قلوبنا على دينك_
_”Oh Allāh, the turner of the hearts, establish our hearts on Your religion.”_
Transmitted by Ibn Mājah in his ‘sunan’#199.
We should also know that, hearts are divided into three categories;
*The first heart.*
This is a type of heart that is filled up with piety and righteousness. This heart is purified from the major diseases of heart such as arrogance, showing off, pride, anger unless the minor ones, for no one is above mistakes except the prophets. It always thinks about good acts and how to attain high status in the side of Allāh.
*The second heart.*
This heart is completely occupied and filled up with bad character and diseases of the heart. Thus, shaitan controls the heart and directs it to his ways while the light of Iman in the heart is weak and spiritless and the heart is covered with the dust of desires. Therefore, the light of guidance is absent in the heart, it will now be like an eyes covers with dust which cannot see properly, and sermon and advises has no effect on such a heart.
*The third heart.*
This heart combines both righteousness and bad character. It is sometimes taking away by desires and love of the dunya, and at times, the heart ponders and rushes to good acts and piety.
