Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-
Said:
The Ādab of the Poor.
Know verily that, the poor person is recommended to be contented with his trials of poverty, and the highest level is for him to be pleased with it, and he should rely on Allāh Ta’āla totally.
However, whenever he complains his situation of poverty to others rather than Allāh Ta’āla, such poverty will be a form of punishment for him. Thus, he should not uncover his situation to others, rather, he should be modest and pray to Allāh.
Allāh Ta’āla says:
…يَحْسَبُهُمُ الْجَاهِلُ أَغْنِيَاءَ مِنَ التَّعَفُّفِ…
…the ignorant man thinks them to be rich on account of (their) abstaining (from begging);
Sūratu Al-Baqarah, Verse 273.
The poor person is recommended not to belittle himself in the sight of the rich ones due to their wealth and he should not desire to sit in their gatherings and he should also not slacken from Ibādāt due to poverty.
He is also recommended to spend as charity from the little he possessed.
Allāhu A’alam
Bārakāllāhu fīkum.
2nd Muharram, 1441AH.
