The Appropriate Time For Sahūr
Zaid bin Thabit said, “We took the Suhur with the Prophet- salallahu alayhi wasalam, then he stood for the prayer.” I asked, “What was the interval between the Suhur and the Adhan?” He replied, “The duration sufficient to recite fifty verses of the Qur’an”

LESSONS FROM THE HADITH
1. The sahour (pre-dawn) meal should be delayed until just before dawn.
2. There are two types of Dawn, the false dawn and the true dawn, the former is not the dawn to be considered but the latter.
3. True Dawn does not appear at once but gradually and in this process it brightness intertwine with the darkness of the night.
4. The confirmation of the appearance of the dawn can be done by either watching and observing the skyline for one who could identify it or taking it from a trusted source like the fajr Adhan of the Muadhin who is acquainted with the true dawn.
5. One should rely on the practically confirmed timing of his place and not the timing produced via astronomical calculations conducted a year in advance.
