_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
The similitude of this is to atone for listening to music by listening to the Holy Qur’an and sitting in the gathering of Zikr, and to atone for taking of beer by giving out halal drink as Sadaqah, thus, one should follow this path in curing of sins, for disease is cured by taking that which is opposite to it, therefore, this is Hukm that’s between a servant and Allāh Ta’āla.
As for oppressing others, then in it there is the disobedience of Allāh Ta’āla; because Allah Has made oppression between his servants Harām.
Hence, this type of sin is taken care off by regretfulness and determination of not repeating such an act in the future, and practising good deeds which are parallel to the bad ones.
Thus, causing harm to others is atoned for by seeking forgiveness from them and being good to them in terms of relationship, defaming the honor of others is atoned for by praising the people of the Dīn, and Murder is atoned for by freeing some slave servant.
But this is regarding that which has to do with the right of Allāh Ta’āla, and if one does that, it is not enough until one clear off oneself the obligations owned to others either in souls, wealth, honors, or hurting the hearts.
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
