_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
*THE CURE FOR SELF AMAZEMENT.*
Know verily that, Allāh subhānahu wa Ta’āla is the one that bestows His Infinite mercy on one by bringing one into existence and the existence of one’s actions. Thus, there is no meaning for a doer of an action to be mesmerized with his deed nor a knowledgeable person due to his knowledge nor a beautiful person for his beauty, nor a rich person for his wealth, for All are amongst the blessings of Allāh Ta’āla which He showers on whosoever He wishes.
Moreover, man is as though a place meant for those blessings, and him being a location prepared for that is another blessings in itself. Therefore, it makes no sense for him to be amazed for his action, knowledge, beauty and power.
And if one may argue by saying that: verily, the action took place due to my struggle and thought. However, one has forgotten that, the action wouldn’t have been in the first place without one’s existence and the existence of such act, aim, and thought. All of these things are amongst the blessings of Allāh Ta’āla on His servant and not from him directly even though he is the one that makes his choices by himself.
And in addition, actions are commensuration of the energy exerted on them, for the energy is the key, and this key is in the hand of Allāh Ta’āla, and if one is not given the key, one can never carryout any act the way one cannot open a closed box except with its particular key.
And couple to that, In the “Sahīhayn”, it is reported from Abū Hurairah Radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Messenger sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam said:
ﻭَﺍﻟْﻘَﺼْﺪَ ﺍﻟْﻘَﺼْﺪَ ﺗَﺒْﻠُﻐُﻮﺍ.”_
_”The deeds of anyone of you will not save you [from the (Hell) Fire].” They said, “Even you O the Messenger sallallāhu a’layhi wasallam Allah’s Messenger? He said, “No, even me, except and until Allah bestows His Mercy on me. Therefore, do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and worship Allah in the forenoon and during a part of the night, and always adopt a moderate, regular course whereby you will reach your target(which is Jannah).”_
Transmitted by Imām Al-Bukhāri in his ‘Sahih’#6463 and Imām in his ‘Sahih’#2816.
This hadith indicates that one cannot escape from the wrath of Allāh Ta’āla due to his action only except with the blessings of Allāh Ta’āla on one. For this, one should never be mesmerized for what Allāh Has bestowed upon one be it knowledge, beauty, good structure, power and the likes. Rather, one should hasten to thank Allāh for such blessings.
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
