_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
*THE CURE FOR THE LOVE OF PRESTIGE.*
know verily that, whosoever the love of position or prestige overcomes his heart, his effort and goal becomes restricted and he will focus mainly on how to attain the pleasure, love and how to capture the heart of the people.
He will not seize looking for ways through his words, action to increase his status and honor in the side of the people, and this is the root of hypocrisy and destruction.
For whosoever seeks to increase his status in the heart of the people is forced due to that to want to show the people what he doesn’t posses in real sense be it knowledge, wealth and determination in ‘ibādāt and this is a form of deception, showing off and hypocrisy.
Also, such a person doesn’t care to follow any means in order achieve his despicable goal thereby destroying his Deen.
For this, the Rasūl salallāhu ‘alayhi Has compared the harm it may causes to the religion of a man who craves for wealth and status with the two hungry wolves sent amongst a flock of sheep.
Thus, the eagerness for status is amongst those acts that destroys, thus, it is wājib that it should be censured and checked.
