Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
The Death of ‘Umar Ibn Khattāb Radiyallāhu anhu.
It is reported from Ibn ‘Umar Radiyallāhu anhu who said: Umar head’s was placed on my thigh after he was stabbed, but Umar said: place my cheek on the ground, I said (i.e Ibn ‘Umar): what’s the difference if your head is on my thigh or the ground? Umar said again: put my cheek on the ground, woe to me if Allāh Has no mercy on me.
And it was reported that when Umar radiyallahu anhu was stabbed, a young man came and said:
By Happy Oh Amīru Al-Mu’minīn with Allah’s glad tidings; you are amongst the companions of the Rasūl Salallāhu alayhi wasallam, your status in Islam is known to you, then you became the khalīfah and you ruled with justice, then matrydom, Umar Radiyallāhu anhu then said: I wish all these achievements will counterweight my errors, so that I neither lose nor gain anything.
It was also reported that Umar Radiyallāhu anhu said:
Wallāhi, if I have as much gold as the whole earth, I will certainly offer it as ransom to be saved from Allah’s punishment before I meet it.
